ELIZABETH MURRAY MORRIS*

Elizabeth Murray was born in Ireland on June 29, 1847. At the age of six weeks her parents sailed to America along with many other Irish families. On the way over her mother, Caron Murray, became ill and the Captain of the ship didn't think she would survive the trip. He wanted to adopt little Elizabeth but Mrs. Murray survived the trip and came to Indiana with her husband and daughter.

The Murray family came to Madison down the Ohio River. They lived north of Lexington just across the line in Jefferson County. It was in this home that Elizabeth grew up in a family of ten children.

Elizabeth married James Morris of Kentucky on June 18, 1874, and they moved to a farm three miles west of Lexington on the Vienna Road. Elizabeth lived on this farm forty-seven years. The couple had two daughters--Nannie and Maud.

The Murray family were Presbyterians and during Elizabeth's life in Lexington she was an active member of the Lexington Presbyterian Church. She died on January 16, 1928 at the age of 80 years.
