J. G. CHAMBERS

J. G. Chambers, born on October 1, 1844 in Jefferson County, Indiana, married Mary C. Hardy, daughter of Clinton R. and Mahala Hough Hardy of Lexington, on July 4, 1876. They made their home in Lexington and later Utica, Scottsburg, and Madison until 1911 when they moved to Portland, Oregon. Mr. Chambers was a member of Company I of the 40th Indiana Infantry and fought in the Civil War. He was a member of the Baptist Church and was First Master of the English Lodge A. F. and A. M. of Lexington as well as the Mt. Hood Lodge Number 157 A. F. and A.M. of Portland, Oregon. He died on August 28, 1936, in Portland.
