LEXINGTON POST OFFICES

No regular delivery of mail was possible in the early pioneer days. Travelers were entrusted with letters for those in the general direction in which they were going and, once arrived at the Post Office, the letters were held there until someone in the family came to town.

As Lexington was located on the Cincinnati Trace, it was in a good location to receive and send mail. There is no record of the location of the earliest post offices in Lexington but they were probably located in places similar to the Log Tavern where the stage coach stopped over night.
