COLONEL SAMUEL S. CROWE*

Colonel Samuel S. Crowe was born in July of 1819 at Shelbyville, Kentucky. He received his formal education at Hanover College which his father, the Reverend John F. Crowe, had founded. He was admitted to the practice of law in 1859 at Lexington, Indiana.

He came to Scott County in 1844 and was elected to the House of Representatives for the term from 1857 to 1858 and re-elected to the 1867-1868 term.

Colonel Crowe filled, at one time or another, just about all the offices in the County. In 1863 he raised a company to take part in the Civil War and served as Captain for three years. He was promoted to Major and then to Lieutenant Colonel before he was mustered out. He then again practiced law for many years with much success along with his partner Charles L. Jewett.
