SOCIAL LIFE IN LEXINGTON
Did the early settlers have fun? They certainly did! Their toil was even interspersed with such happenings as log rolling, house raising, husking bees and sugar and molasses making. At such gatherings, in which the whole community participated, neighbor helped neighbor, sharing what was had with all. Many an hour was spent telling and retelling tales about fights with Indians and wild animals. An old settler could be heard enlarging upon the time he ran into a bear when he had no gun and with glee tell how he "jest reached down that bear's throat and turned him inside out" to protect himself.
