W. E. GREEN, M. D.

One of Scott County's leading citizens during the late 1800's was W. E. Green, M. D., who established his medical practice in Lexington in 1876.

Dr. Green, born on January 22, 1850 at Tuppies Plains in Meigs, Ohio, was the son of one of the earliest settlers of Meigs, Ohio -- William Green from Oswego, New York, a farmer in humble circumstances.

Until he reached the age of 21, W E. Green attended the common schools during the winter and worked on his father's farm during the summer. At the age of 21 he entered the Tuppies Plains Seminary, studying under Professor L. O. Crippen of Athens, Ohio, for approximately two years. After leaving the seminary he began the study of medicine under the tutelage of Dr. Josephus Parsons and, subsequently, entered the Eclectic Medical Institute at Cincinnati.

On September 15th, 1876, Or. Green settled in Lexington, building one of the most successful practices in the area. On July 20, 1879, he married Flora B. Paswater, the daughter of William and Eliza Paswater--a highly respected farming family of Lexington. They had four children--Silvia, Mae, Anna and Fred.

Dr. Green was initiated into the I. O. O. F. Lodge of Lexington on July 22, 1879 and was the representative of his Lodge in the Grand Lodge at Indianapolis in 1884.

Dr. Green remained active in community and state affairs until his death in 1929.
