WINGATE CEMETERY
Lexington Township
Scott County, Indiana
This abandoned family burying ground is located in Lexington Township, Scott County, Indiana, about one-half mile north of State Road 356, and one-fourth mile west of County Road 600E. It is in the northeast quarter of Section 31, T3N, R83. This fractional quarter section of 585 acres was entered on October 17, 1818, by John Wingate, who is buried here. It is in a pasture and owes its preservation to the fact it is (was) overgrown with bushes and blackberry briars. Some stones may have been overlooked.
... From CEMETERY RECORDS, SCOTT COUNTY, published in 1978.
Sunken areas and rough field stones in June 1987 may indicate unmarked burials.
