Dennis Wesley Hollenbeck

The following information was provided by Dennis Wesley Hollenbeck of San Leandro, California.

My Mother first met my father at Sunshine Biscuits in Oakland, CA. She was a packer, and he was her boss. They were married in 1946, and had me in January 1948, and my baby brother who died after birth on October 10, 1948. He was named just Baby Boy Hollenbeck. I have three siblings from my mother's previous marriage, Phillip Boylan, Colleen Boylan Keller, and Forsythe Boylan, deceased. I have on a wall in the front room of my home, a hand-painted plate done by my grandmother Jerusha Hollenbeck. The back of plate contains a note that states:

"This plate of hand-painted red roses done by Grandmother Jerusha Hollenbeck in 1912. It was a gift with a $1 purchase at Grandfather James Hollenbeck's food store at 5532 Central Ave., Los Angeles, California."

Another member of my family is well known in the movies! My cousin Clifton Webb (real name is Webb P. Hollenbeck) was a dancer, singer, and actor on the New York Stage. Beginning in 1920 and ending in 1962 he made over 25 movies in Hollywood. In the late 1940s and 1950s he was a big star in Hollywood. I have a hand-written note to my father from Webb. He wrote:

"With Best Wishes to Gene, Clifton Webb"

Also the founder of this Hollenbeck-Hallenbeck web site, Robert Kleopfer is my 3rd cousin once removed.

Dennis worked for 29 years as mail clerk for the Naval Supply Center in Oakland, California. He retired in 1997, due to the soon closing of the base (1998). Dennis went to Fremont High School in Oakland, CA., and was the Class of 1966. He now lived in San Leandro, California. Dennis is a member of the My Family Hollenbecks (members only) web site, and has written many stories of people and places of the Hollenbeck name and posted many photos.

This is Eugene "Gene" Hollenbeck and his wife Theodosia (Blasser) Hollenbeck. They are the mother and father of Dennis Wesley Hollenbeck. This photo was taken on July 4, 1971. It was their last picture together for Eugene died a few days later on July 7, 1971. Theodosia died on May 10, 1984.
