4. I am searching for the father of Robert Hallenbeck. Robert and Nelly White were the parents of Cornelia Hallenbeck born 17 Apr 1798, baptized, per church records 26 Aug 1798 Oak Hill Reformed Church, town of Durham, NY. This wife may be incorrect or Robert may have had two wives as church records say Robert Hallenbeck and Elsa Worth were the parents of John Hallenbeck born 28 Mar 1795, baptized 14 Jun 1795 Oak Hill Ref Church. The 1850 census shows Elsa Hallenbeck living with her daughter Cornelia Hallenbeck and her husband William Traver who was my gggrandfather on my mothers side. The 1810 census of Greene County NY shows a Robert Hollenbake with 6 dependents. There were many Hallenbeck, Hollenbeck, and other closely spelled names in Greene County, but I don't know which he is descended from. Al, AAlbri4819@aol.com

The city directory shows him living there 1866 and at the same address as other Hallenbecks: Edwin, John and Peter--all of them were listed in the 1856 directory and all of them from New York. There were several more HALLENBECKS in the near vicinity. Abe married Annie (Ernestine) WINDISCH in Cook county in 1867. Edward (sometimes listed Edwin) mrd. Amelia L. SHAFFER in 1866. 8. My great aunt Ida Martha Eastwood married J. H. Hollenbeck, 30 March 1904. I have a picture of "The Hollenbeck Home" in Central City, Nebraska circa early 1900s. There are a perhaps twenty or more people standing on the porch and front yard. I can identify some of the people but not all. I also have a portrait photo of J.H. Hollenbeck.   He appears to be in his 40s at the time picture was taken. I am searching for their descendants and his ancestors. If anyone is interested in photos let me know.  acalkins@innercite.com (Al Calkins)   Note: see bio for the father of John Henry Hollenbeck at John Thomas Hollenbeck.

9. My grandfather, Conrad Hollenbeck was born East Hebron, Potter County, Pennsylvania November 19, 1847. His first American ancestor, his great-grandfather, came from Holland when a young man and settled at Coxsackie, Greene County, New York, where he married. This is the person I have no name for. This ancestors son Conrad Hollenbeck, lived to the unusual age of 106 years and is buried at Sweden Valley in Potter County, Pa. This Conrad was married in Courtland County, New York, to Rebecca Edwards. Their son, John Hollenbeck, became a prosperous farmer in Hebron Pa., where he moved after his marriage to Emily Parker, a native of Virgil, Courtland County, Ny. Their son, my grandfather before he was 17 enlisted in 207th Pennsylvania Infantry and I believe served in Company D. After the war he resumed his education and in June, 1869, graduated from the college at Mansfield, Pa. Was admitted to the Bar in 1871 elected to the Legislature in 1874 and again in 1876. On May 9, 1877 he married Janet Knox at Coudersport and they moved to Fremont Ne. where he was elected county attorney in 1890 Judge of the Sixth Judicial District in 1898 and chief justice of the state supreme court in 1914. 21. I am looking for info on a Teunis Halenbeck born 15 March 1789 to Killian Halenbeck and Rachel Bresse. I need info on who he married and his children. I believe they are from the Columbia Co region of NY State. Wht WolfWm@aol.com

22. Seeking information on the family and origins of Mary HOLLINBECK b.a. 1756 in Montgomery (later Fulton) Co. NY, m. 1782 in Johnstown, Montgomery Co. NY to Comfort SHAW, son of Daniel and Mary (Gardner) SHAW of Stonington CT. Mary is said to be the daughter of John HOLLINBECK of Richmond, Litchfield Co. CT, and the granddaughter of Abraham and Elisabeth (Broun) HALENBECK or HALLENBEECK of CT. I have only the Ancestral File and IGI as authority for her pedigree and would be grateful for any documented information or leads to published sources on this family.

Additional information added 6/2/97: Seeking information on the family and origins of John HOLLENBECK b.a. 1726 d.aft. 1790 poss. in Montgomery Co. NY. His daughter Mary HOLLENBECK b. 20 Aug 1756 d. 27 Jul 1817 m. 15 Nov 1782 in Johnstown, Montgomery Co. NY to Comfort SHAW (1759-1799), son of Daniel and Mary (Gardiner) SHAW of Rensselaer Co. NY. Mary and Comfort had eight children b. 1784-1796 (information from SHAW family Bible). John HOLLENBECK is enumerated in the 1790 Census of Caughnawaga township, Montgomery Co. NY, with a household consisting of himself, a son under 16, and two females. Just 14 houses away is his son-in-law Comfort SHAW, with a household of the correct size and composition. Somewhat further away but still in Caughnawaga township is a John HALENBECK, whose household consists of two males over 16 and two females. (Caughnawaga township was located near present-day Fonda NY.) The SHAW family Bible says that John HOLLENBECK was "of Amsterdam, Holland." This would suggest that he was of Dutch, rather than German, descent. However, it seems more likely that he was from the =village= of Amsterdam, about 10 miles east of Caughnawaga and 25 miles northwest of Albany, rather than the =city= in Europe. He may well be connected to the Dutch Reformed colony that had been in the Albany area since the mid-1600s. I would be most grateful for information or leads to published sources that would shed light on this matter.

Additional information added August 21, 1998:  Seeking information on the family and origins of Johannes "John" HOLLENBECK (Halenbeck, Halenbeeck, Haalenbeck), b. abt. 1726 reportedly in Amsterdam HOL, em. to NY at a young age and settled three miles east of Claverack, Columbia Co. (then Albany). He m. abt. 1746 Mary or Marytje JAMES, by whom he had at least four children whose bapt. were registered in Germantown and Claverack: Sara 1748, Johannes 1751, Marytje 1755, and Bata 1761. He appears to have been a tenant on Livingston Manor, since his name does not appear on the 1763 list of freeholders. About 1775 the family moved to Caughnawaga (Fonda), in what is now Montgomery Co. NY, where they appear in the Census of 1790. John does not appear to be part of the better-known HALLENBECK or HOLLENBECK family of the Hudson Valley, descendants of Caspar Jacobse HALENBEK (c.1621-1703), who were represented in Claverack at this same time by the sons and grandsons of Willem Janse HOLLENBECK (1675-1754)  Paul B. Phelps

26. Looking for the parents of Abraham Hollenbeck and his wife Jane Gardner. They lived in the following places that I know of; Columbia Co., Onieda Co., & Wayne Co., in New York and they settled in Marathon Twp., Lapeer Co., in Michigan. Abram and Jane married 13 Oct 1816 at Claverack, Columbia Co., NY. Their headstone located in the Hollenbeck Cemetery near their original homestead states Abram's birth as 18 Jan 1796 & Jane's death certificate states her birth as 9 Aug 1800 in NY. Abram died 16 Sep 1843 & Jane died 5 Sep 1868. Jane's father was Jacob Gardner per her death certificate. Their ten children where Edmund, Jacob, Christina, Sophia, Richard, Lucretia, William, Jane, Franklin, & Silas. I'm interesting in corresponding with anyone interested in this branch of the Hollenbecks or Gardners that came to Michigan in 1835-7?. I think there is suppose to be a bunch of Gardners from the area of NY where the Hollenbecks came from.

27.
My grandfather's name was EDWARD LANSING HALLENBECK, and he was born June 12, 1845 and died in 1924. The family Bible lists his parents as Jacob HALLENBECK and Anna Eliza JORALEMON (and Jacob was the son of Jacob HALLENBECK and Jane OSTERHOUT. Edward was their oldest child, and although I can find documentation for his siblings, I cannot find him (and the place he was born is illegible in the Bible, but appears to start with a "c" -- born in a different place from his siblings, so that may be part of the problem). Other children of Jacob and Anna were Adelia Hallenbeck, Annie Hallenbeck Blodgett, Frank Hallenbeck (who married Luch Morker), William Hallenbeck (who married Helen Hedrich), Josephine Hallenbeck, and Louise Hallenbeck. Edward Lansing HALLENBECK married Julia LENNON on 25 December, 1893 at Preston Hollow, Albany County, NY. Their oldest daughter, Mildred HALLENBECK, was my grandmother. Any info you have would be appreciated.   mcleanparks@simon.wustl.edu (Judi McLean Parks)

29.   I've been researching my line of the Hollenbeck family (Cortland County, New York) for about 12 years now. I can trace back to John Hollenbeck (b. 1773/6 in "Stonaurabie"/Stone Arabia, New York) and Hannah Conrad (Coonrod).  I'd love to find out if anyone else has traced my branch of the family - and also have a few interesting tidbits to share.  Cassius Hollenbeck (d. 4/19/27) was mayor of Detroit for some years. (He was my great-grandfather's brother.)  ISOGirl@aol.com  Nancy A. Hollenbeck

30. My maternal grandmother was Malinda Hollenbach, b. 1880, in Valley View, Schuylkill county, PA. All I know of her parents are that her father was Elias Hollenbach and her mother was Louisa. If you should happen to come across these names let me know. Thanks. jhuratiak@p3.net  James J. Huratiak

34.  My mother's maiden name is Hollenbeck. Her father is Edwin Clyde Hollenbeck. He was born in Pullman, Washington in 1922 or so. His father was Ruben Hollenbeck. He was born in Gridley, Ca., in 1892. His father was George Hollenbeck. George is buried in Pullman, Wa. His tombstone says he was born in 1865 , but I can't find a birth or death certificate for him anywhere. Rumor has it that George's father came West from Missouri, Iowa or Illinois for gold in 1850. My Hollenbeck relatives vaguely know of a story about a bunch of brothers getting into a gunfight over a gold mine.  Amoore5000@aol.com  Andrew Hollenbeck Moore

35.  Looking for Frank Hollenbeck.  Frank Hollenbeck married Minnie Adalaid Ferry on August 10, 1881.  They had two sons, Evert Alonzo, born 4 Oct 1882, and Adelbert Deloss, born 26 Aug 1884.  Both boys were probably born in Cherokee or Beuna Vista county, Iowa. In a letter written for Adelbert's son, Galen, is this story:  "When my Dad was 2 years old his father heard a noise in the barn in the middle of the night.  He went to investigate and was never seen or heard of again.  After that Dad spent much money to locate him but never did.  Don't know if he was murdered or just took off.  None of his clothes were gone.  "If anyone has any information on Frank Hollenbeck, his origin or his outcome, please contact Arlene Hollenbeck (grandma@nwidt.com) 5777 D Ave., Marcus, IA 51035.  (posted by Lee Ann Hollenbeck - lee@keynet.net)
